Webinar recording provides the facts on healthy fats

The Olive Wellness Institute has done it again, providing another great resource to help spread the word about the health benefits of EVOO and dispel one of the most frustrating myths.

Run in September for health professionals, the webinar Reframing Healthy Fats in Every Practice was presented by well-known dietician Dr Joanna McMillan and MC Dr Tim Crowe. It unpacks the science behind extra virgin olive oil, nuts, and avocados, recognising that these nutrient-rich foods are often misunderstood due to outdated fat and kilojoule concerns. It explores the latest research, corrects misconceptions around dietary fats, and offers practical advice for integrating these foods into healthy diets.

The session starts by discussing the issues around increasing consumption of ‘good fats’ like EVOO – the ‘low fat hangover’, lack of differentiation between fats, and the overly-simplistic Health Star Rating (HSR) algorithm, which ignores the complexity and diversity of minor components in these foods.

It then works through the components and micro-nutrients in each of the foods, along with their scientifically-proven health benefits and effects on weight.

It’s great information, all backed by science and research, and another great resource to share with your networks to help counter the frustrating ‘fat is bad’ and ‘EVOO makes you fat’ myths!
