OWI from tree to table

The Olive Wellness Institute (OWI) is one of our industry’s greatest champions, spreading the word about the myriad health benefits of olive products. And while its work is helping educate health and food service professionals about its healthy attributes, less is known about the journey of growing olive trees through to producing high quality extra virgin olive oil, and how important the process is for the resultant taste, quality, and healthfulness of the oil.

The OWI’s answer is the webinar recording Tree to Table: The Journey of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, a recent addition to the cache of resources on the Institute’s website.

Presenter Claudia Guillaume, General Manager of Modern Olives Laboratory, takes attendees through the journey of growing olive trees and producing extra virgin olive oil in Australia. She also explains the factors that influence the taste and profile of extra virgin olive oil, and what to look out for when tasting.

Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian Emma Stirling then delves into the culinary aspects of extra virgin olive oil, including creative and practical ways to incorporate it into cooking. She also looks at which varieties are suitable for use in different dishes.

For growers, the webinar is another great tool for taking the olive oil story to consumers, so take a look yourself and then share the link with your networks. You’ll find it on the OWI website here, where you’ll also find a wealth of additional resources to help spread the word about EVOO, quality, flavour and health.

The Olive Wellness Institute’s work is delivered via the Hort Innovation strategic investment project Increasing awareness of the health benefits of Australian olive products (OL22001). The project is funded by Hort Innovation using the olive research and development levy and funds from the Australian Government.
