Olive oil jugs in EU restaurants: a cultural and legal battle defending consumers and producers

The Italian Minister of Agricultural Food and Forestry Policies comments news of the European Commission’s withdrawal: “For us it is a cultural battle and one for legality. That part of the Regulation now withdrawn by the Commission in fact enabled to improve the fight against frauds in restaurants, where consumers have the right to know what type of oil is used. I am sure that Commissioner Cioloş will find a way to take into account this issue that is so important for the Mediterranean countries. It is important to create a culture of oil comparable to that of wine and to achieve that this is an important step. Improving and protecting quality is in the interest of everyone, producers and consumers. “
