Learn or refresh at VIC and NSW Back to Basics Field Days
Whether you’re looking to start a grove from scratch or want to refresh your knowledge on olive growing, attending one of the AOA’s upcoming Back to Basics Field Days is a ‘must-do’ for your calendar.
So it’s great news that two new field days have been scheduled for Victoria and New South Wales, being held in late August and early September respectively.
Led by AOA CEO Michael Southan and AOA President and horticulture consultant Michael Thomsett, the full-day workshops combine morning presentations on grove establishment and management with an afternoon guided walk through the grove.
The comprehensive program starts with an overview of the industry and olive products, before moving on to planting considerations including site selection and varietals. It then works through the growing and production stages, including irrigation, grove management, pruning, pests and diseases and harvest options, providing key information for both new and existing growers.
The focus on the fundamentals aims to provide the basic decision-making information for anyone entering the olive industry, and also practical updated knowledge for those wanting to better manage an existing grove or restore a neglected grove.
Where possible, specialist industry providers will be on hand to add their expert knowledge across the program’s wide-ranging topics, and provide information on the latest equipment and services available to increase grove efficiency.
