Registrations are now open for the ABARES Burnie Regional Outlook conference on Wednesday 26 September 2012. The conference program is tailored to the region, including commodity forecasts and discussion on industry trends. It’s a chance to access information, make new contacts in the community and gain an understanding of global issues affecting the region. A mix of local and ABARES speakers will run sessions on Global economy – local impacts, Expanding the North West – productivity and markets, Adapting to a changing environment and a closing panel discussion on Skills, training and careers for young regional Australians. Here panellists and delegates will explore topics such as demographic shifts, regional development, future producers, labour and skills, future industries, new technologies and social media. The Fleurieu Peninsula Tourism Marketing Committee is creating food and wine tourism experience trails for food and wine tourism businesses across the region – restaurants/cafes, cellar doors offer a food experience, providores, farmgates and workshops/cooking classes. Part of the project is a workshop ‘Find the “Point of Difference” of Your Business and Learn How to Communicate Your Story Really Well’, presented by Flinders University Emeritus Professor of Tourism Jane James. The two-part workshop will be held at ‘Our Place’, Range Rd, Willunga Hill on Tuesday, 28 August from 3.30-7.30pm and Tuesday, 11 September from 4-6pm. Cost is $25.00. A mix of local and ABARES speakers will present sessions on ‘Global economy – local impacts,’ ‘Toward a more productive agriculture’ and a closing panel discussion on ‘Furthering regional Australia’s future.’ The latter will explore topics such as sea-change and demographic shifts, regional development, peri-urban expansion, urban-rural connections, future producers, labour and skills, future industries, new technologies and social media. The program for the 2012 National Olive Industry Conference & Expo, being held at West Lakes, Adelaide, will be printed earlier this year than previously. The mid-September publication date will ensure a wider dissemination of information prior to the Conference and increased coverage for Exhibitors taking part in the Trade Expo, and also provide greater opportunity for growers/producers to organise their attendance. Listing information and promotional support material must also be provided no later than August 30 to ensure inclusion in the printed program. Details of the 2012 AOA National Conference & Trade Exhibition have now been confirmed. The event will be held in South Australia on Wednesday, 31 October and Thursday, 1 November 2012 at the West Lakes Function Centre. The venue is just 20 minutes from Adelaide and 15 minutes from the airport, and adjacent to the city’s major beachfront accommodation and attractions. The annual national EVOO awards will be held in conjunction with the event on the evening of 31 October.
