Be prepared and pro-active via the National Biosecurity Training Hub
Australia may be an island but the global world we live in means that pest and disease incursions are a reality – and increasingly so. We’ve already had fall army worm, red fire ants and swine flu, among others, and recent new infections in Italy of the olive industry’s #1 threat, Xylella fastidiosa, are proof that we need to be vigilant.
One of the best tools we have is the National Biosecurity Training Hub, launched in 2023 to provide free, easy access to biosecurity education and training. The Hub brings together courses tailored to every role, region, and industry, from logistics and supply chain through to producers, veterinarians, agronomists, and biosecurity professionals, streamlining open access to knowledge and practical skills.
The Hub was developed by Plant Health Australia (PHA) in collaboration with the Queensland Department of Primary Industries (QDPI), Animal Health Australia, NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, and Agriculture Victoria, and supported by the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF), and covers detection, prevention and response to biosecurity risks.
It now houses almost 80 verified courses from 20 providers across the plant, animal and aquatic sectors, and has been visited by nearly 50,000 users over 95,000 views since its inception.

The platform is accessible to anyone, whether you’re on the land, in supply chains, in local government, or simply curious about how biosecurity protects everyday life, and can be accessed here.
The National Biosecurity Training Hub was created and is managed by stakeholder partners including Plant Health Australia (PHA). Plant Health Australia’s work is funded by its members, including the Australian Olive Association (Industry Peak Body member) and Hort Innovation (Associate member). A percentage of the annual Olive Levy goes to PHA to support its work.
