Study: U.S. olive oil producers could gain market share

Olive oil producers in the United States could make significant gains in market share if they can establish stricter labeling standards and increase consumer education on quality, a new study by Rabobank asserts.  Domestic producers can expect to acquire a 5% share of the US market in the next five years if those measures are taken, according to Rabobank’s Food and Agribusiness Research and Advisory team. The anticipated growth is based on US offerings of premium products that are proving superior to imports from European and Mediterranean countries, which now control 70% of the world’s olive oil production.
