Congratulations to Kathy and Mark Norris from 10 Steps-Waterloo Olives Tasmania, who entered their first competition in the 2019 Royal Hobart fine food awards and won two bronze, two gold, reserve champion, champion and best in the Tasmanian competition.

“We then entered the Australian International Olive Awards and won gold there, what a year we can’t do much better than that – lots of Marks hard work rewarded”, said Kathy.

10 Steps-Waterloo Olives EVOO is made with a blend of the 10 varieties of olives they grow.

Gold Award Class 3 Robust tasting notes: Aromas of chocolate, tropical banana, spice and malt that transfer to the palate well. Clean light mouthfeel. A flinty dry mouthfeel with balanced bitterness and pepper. Complex aromas and flavours that linger on the finish. A well-rounded oil with a lovely texture.

Although Tasmania is a boutique production state with the smallest olive oil production in Australia (<1%), with its enthusiastic growers and cool climate conditions, ‘Tassie’ punches well above its weight with respect to olive oil quality, winning 6 of the 30 (20%) EVOO Gold Medals at the 2018 Australian International Awards (AIOA), including Best in Show! In the AIOA EVOO 2019 competition Tasmanian producers won 4 (12.5%) of the 32 Gold Medals.
