Market growth in China organics; export barriers remain

New research from Mintel on consumer lifestyles in China reveals that due to major food scares in 2011, the organic food sector is the major beneficiary, with 80% of urban Chinese consumers claiming that organic food and drink products are worth paying more for. However, Australian certified organic product companies targeting export into China say barriers to entering the China market – especially the need to comply with new China organic standards from 2012 – are substantial.
